The objective of this project is to measure the provincial cholecystectomy conversion rate variance and its impact on whether the general surgeons of Alberta modify their own practice based on observed variance.

Preoperative diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests have little value for asymptomatic patients under-going low-risk non-cardiac surgeries. PLP examined the use of pre-op testing in Alberta to determine the frequency at which it occurs and to identify possible areas where it can be reduced or eliminated.

The majority of hip fractures occur as a result of osteoporosis which may or may not have been diagnosed when the event occurs. The study examined how patients were diagnosed and treated for osteoporosis before and after they suffered a hip fracture.
