Vaccination and Cardiovascular Protection presented by Dr. Lynora Saxinger

Respiratory infections like influenza, COVID-19 and RSV can trigger heart attacks, strokes and heart failure flare-ups in people with heart disease. This session covers the evidence for vaccination as part of routine cardiovascular care, with influenza vaccine showing about a one-third reduction in major cardiac events in high-risk patients. It also covers current NACI and Alberta recommendations. Healthcare providers will come away with practical workflows for finding missed vaccination opportunities, and with plain-language scripts for talking with vaccine-hesitant patients.
