Dementia Diagnosis, Treatment and Management

Neurology (Brain & Nervous System), Mental Health & Addictions, Aging & Supportive Care
Dementia is one of the most pressing and complex challenges faced in primary care today. With an aging population, PCPs are increasingly called upon to diagnose, manage, and support patients and families navigating cognitive decline. However, evolving diagnostic criteria, new treatment options, and diverse care needs can make this work daunting. Multiple needs assessments have highlighted significant knowledge gaps in dementia care, from early recognition and treatment decisions to managing behavioural symptoms and assessing capacity.
To address these gaps, L3 and the PLP, in collaboration with Dr. Diana Rucker, are developing a comprehensive four-part webinar series aimed at equipping primary care providers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver high-quality, person-centred dementia care throughout the disease trajectory. The sessions will cover key topics including the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body dementia, and approaches to assessing capacity and supporting patient decision-making.
This series offers clinicians practical, expert-informed guidance across the dementia care continuum. By enhancing confidence in diagnosis, management, and decision-making, it empowers providers to deliver timely, person-centred care that better supports patients with dementia and their families.
